HELP!! Should i ask my guy friend out to the Sadie Hawkins?

ok so i go to a school where we have sadie hawkins (girls-ask-boys). i wanted to know if i should ask my guy friend that ive known for two years. should i, cuz i dont want to ruin our friendship, or make it aawkward if he rejects. i cant really tell if hes flirting with me, but he talks to me different than everyone else, he always makes eye contact with me, and seemed worried when i went in for brain surgery. i feel like im thinking about this way too much, but i am hessitating on this cuz ive never had a date to anything and dont want my first expirience to end in ruins!!!
