My computer crashed and I want to try and retreive files?

I downloaded a anti virus software from Norton and it caused my laptop to crash and now I want to retrieve some of my work from my laptop...I was able to access my laptops hard drive with the recovery disc. Would I be able to put in a flash drive and drag and drop stuff from my hard drive to my flash drive? or is there a more efficient way of retrieving files?
